Parents’ Guidelines

1.   Prepare household for Baptism, including sponsors and extended family

·     Give prayerful attention to selecting “Christian Sponsors” for your child’s Baptism

“The sponsors of children are often called “godparents.”  They may fulfill a variety of social roles in certain cultures.  These roles may be regarded as an elaboration of the central baptismal role they have undertaken.  Such sponsors take on a lifelong task to recall the gifts of Baptism in the life of their godchild.”

(Means of Grace, p.26)

·     Meet with your Pastor for Baptismal Counseling

·     Schedule your child’s Baptism as a significant “family celebration,” including grandparents and extended family

2.   Establish prayer patterns to include child: morning, means, bedtime

·     Teach the prayer posture of head bowed, hands folded, (kneeling), quiet attention

·     Select certain prayers and repeat them at specific times each day.

·     A suggest website for daily prayers is:  www.bedtime.com

www.ainglkiss.com

·     For example:

Mealtime:

*“Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest, and to us this food be blest.”

*”For every cup and plateful, God make us truly grateful”

*”A, B, C, D, E, F, G

Thank you God for feeding me.  Amen”

                                    Bedtime:

*”Now I lay me down to sleep.

I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to keep.

Your love be with me through the night

And wake me with the morning light.”
