A Faith Formation Program for Newborns to 3 years

New parents get lots of advice about raising babies. Books, websites, family members, and well-meaning strangers equip parents-to-be with ten strategies for getting baby to sleep through the night before the baby even arrives! "Splash!" ministry at Muhlenberg connects new parents with a mentor to help them navigate this overwhelming experience and nurture the child's faith formation.

Cindy and Dan Thrush, parents to four month old Joshua, feel lucky to have been assigned Judy Wilfong as a mentor. "Judy visits us, is always available by phone and has been a much-needed support in dealing with the challenges of a new baby," says Cindy. "It's great to have someone from our church family be so close to our family. I think she's enjoyed watching Joshua grow too!"

Splash ministry focuses on helping parents fulfill the promise they made at their child's baptism. Mentors bring ideas for faith forming activities as well as Splash handouts and music. Each baby even gets his own faith journal so that parents, and eventually the child, can record major moments on his or her journey towards knowing God. By joining new parents with caring mentors, Splash is a wonderful experience for all involved.

Judy certainly agrees.  "What a joy it has been to watch little Joshua grow over these first few months!  I have enjoyed getting to know Dan and Cindy.  Cindy and I found that we have a lot in common, and although she hasn't had many questions about motherhood (she's a natural!), we have had some wonderful discussions.  The best part . . . . a baby is always a miracle.  What a blessing to be part of the Thrush family's life during this very special time!"
