· Model random (but intentional) acts of kindness (e.g. Let
people go ahead in a check-out line if they are in a hurry or have less items to
purchase; put a quarter in someone’s parking meter; open the door for someone;
practice courteous driving habits; recognize and compliment the check out clerk
and other attendants who are employed to serve you.
· Let Dad know how much he is loved – serve up their
favorite dessert, help out with a chore, share an appreciation for what they do,
let dad pick out the family activity for the day.
· Go fishing or boating.
Make connections with Scripture (John 21:1-14; Jonah; Mark 4:35-41; John
6:16-21)
· Read the Prodigal Son (Luke 15):
What did the younger son ask for? How
did his father respond?
What happened to the younger son?
Why did he think to go back home?
How did his father receive him?
How did the older brother respond?
How did the father treat the older brother?
“Prodigal” means wasteful, excessive. Why is the younger son often called the ‘prodigal son’? Who else in the story might be called ‘prodigal’?
How is our Heavenly Father ‘prodigal’ in his relationship with us?
· Talk about:
What is your favorite book? Why?
When do you feel the most loved?
What makes you feel better when you are sad?
What do you like to do with your family?
